Nutrition is a critical part of health and development. Better nutrition is related to improved infant, child and maternal health, stronger immune systems, safer pregnancy and childbirth, lower risk of non-communicable diseases and longevity.

Current research on Pediatric Nutrition states that the only one in three children are physically active every day, Less than 5% of adults participate in 30 minutes of physical only one in three adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week. More than 80% of adults do not meet the guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities, and more than 80% of adolescents do not do enough aerobic physical activity to meet the guidelines for youth.

Taking Aim to progress the setting of NUTRITION Targets:

• National target setting can help drive action on nutrition, and setting targets that are SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound) can help ensure focus and accountability.

• Some national governments have begun to set targets related to non-communicable diseases (NCDs)—indicating a growing commitment—but they are still in the minority. Only about 30 percent of countries that provided data to the World Health Organization have incorporated targets for obesity, diabetes, and salt reduction into their national NCD plans.
